In fall 2004 the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care (MOHLTC) granted ORTAP some funding for a pilot project to "field test" some advanced roles in Ontario. This project is called APRT and has three overlapping phases: Goals for Phase I (September 2004 - April 2005): - Put into place an organizational, reporting, and financial structure to provide project oversight.
- Solicit proposals for field-testing a variety of representative Advanced Practice roles in Ontario Cancer Centres.
- Develop frameworks and criteria to standardize implementation and evaluation.
Goals for Phase II (February 2005 - April 2006): - Evaluate five field tested AP roles in a variety of practice settings that will address the strengths and weaknesses of the various practice models tested, barriers and opportunities for widespread implementation,
- Articulate the competency profile required to perform these roles.
- Determinate of the requisite educational curriculum to develop future practitioners.
Goals for Phase III (April 2006 - September 2006): - Compile and analyze the data from the pilot
- Prepare a report with stakeholder input
- Develop an implementation kit for Advanced Practice Radiation Therapy in Ontario
- Outline a curriculum to form the basis of the underpinning education needed to fulfill these roles (possibly at a masters’ level)
